![]() Woods thinks he knows better than everyone, which is the mentality that's stopping him from outsmarting Voight. He should have known better than to tell her the truth before they were able to take down Kendrick. ![]() Tracy Spiridakos is a good addition to the team, but there’s still so much more that can-and should-be done with Upton before she’s got her own place in the Intelligence Unit.Thankfully, Antonio is trained to navigate even the worst situations with minimal casualties.īrianna isn't completely at fault for what happened though Woods' ego is largely at play. So what do we think of Hailey Upton? We’d give her a solid B. But right now she’s still mostly an enigma and that’s hard to get an audience to invest in. Luckily it will be addressed later in Chicago PD season 5, and then maybe we’ll get a better sense of her, and care more about Upton as a person. That’s to be expected as we’re only three episodes in, but PD is playing coy about this undercover case of hers. The other issue is that we don’t know enough about Upton yet to be invested in her story. Upton would’ve had a better shake if she was partnered with anyone else instead of literally being in Lindsay’s former spot. Not only that, but she was the character PD used to try and support Halstead as he faced the fallout from the season-opening shooting, which is obviously what Lindsay would have done. Upton began the season partnered up with Lindsay’s ex-partner (and ex-boyfriend) Jay Halstead ( Jesse Lee Soffer). Instead, so far we’ve seen Upton in many places we would have found Lindsay. The way to separate the two characters in the audience’s minds is to have them do different things. If Chicago PD isn’t wanting fans to think of Upton as “the replacement” for Lindsay, it’s not doing the best job showing it. ![]() If there are any issues with the character so far they’re more to do with the way she’s being utilized. So it’s clear that Hailey Upton is learning what it means to be a part of Intelligence, just as fans of Chicago PD are learning more about Hailey Upton. She even pulled a very Intelligence-like move in the second episode, when she didn’t tell a suspect his wife was dead until she casually threw photos of the woman’s corpse on the interview room table as she left: She established Upton in Chicago PD season 4 as a character that we didn’t want to mess with, and while she hasn’t gotten a ton of screen time in the first three episodes of season 5, she’s shown Upton as someone who takes being part of Intelligence seriously and who is trying to be there for her new teammates. Law & Order season 23 is not coming to NBC in September 2023Īnd when we’re talking about Lindsay, who was Chicago PD‘s female lead, one-half of the show’s main relationship and a fan favorite, that creates a very long shadow regardless of who comes in or how they got there.īut we have to separate Hailey Upton from all of the behind the scenes stuff, and evaluate her on her own as a character, and look at what Tracy Spiridakos is now bringing to Chicago PD season 5.įor someone who’d never played any kind of law enforcement officer before, Tracy Spiridakos is doing a pretty good job of it.Chicago Fire season 12: Will Yuriy Sardarov return as Otis?.SWAT season 7 is not coming to CBS in September 2023.Station 19 season 7 is not coming to ABC in September 2023.The Good Doctor season 7 is not coming to ABC in September 2023.While no one has explicitly said that Hailey Upton was promoted to regular in order to fill the open spot left by Lindsay, those two events are still connected in the audience’s minds. ![]() It’s tougher when that change coincides with something that Chicago PD fans were shocked and dismayed about: the departure of Sophia Bush‘s character, Erin Lindsay, when Bush moved on to pursue other opportunities. It’s never easy when a new character is brought into an established TV show lineup, that fans already know and love the way it is. Make no mistake about it, Upton had an uphill battle. Tracy Spiridakos‘s character was made a series regular after season 4, so it’s natural to ask how she’s fit in on a full-time basis. We’ve now seen three episodes of Chicago PD season 5, so we’ve had some time to welcome Hailey Upton to the Intelligence Unit. By Leigh Hayhurst 5 years ago With three Chicago PD season 5 episodes done, how is Hailey Upton fitting in with the Intelligence Unit? We discuss Tracy Spiridakos’s addition to the team.
